THE FRESH-AIR FILE

A little less hurry. A little more green.

An easy way to make Point Defiance the whole plan.

You don’t need to do everything. Start here, follow your curiosity, and make this one your own.

01

Choose a corner, not a checklist.

Point Defiance is a large park. Decide whether your day is about forest, gardens, or shoreline, then choose an arrival point from the official park map. Keeping the plan small gives you more time to notice what is around you.

02

Let the route fit the people.

Choose distance and terrain to suit everyone coming along. Trail conditions, weather, and the group’s energy can change your plan. Bring water and a layer, and make turning back a perfectly good option rather than a disappointment.

03

Stop for a while.

Find a suitable place to pause and listen. A quiet break can be the best part of the visit. Leave the area as you found it and check your timing before heading farther out, especially as daylight changes through the season.
