The Blue Mouse could have become office space. In 1993, preservationists bought the theater and restored it instead. That is worth remembering when you settle in: an ordinary ticket helps keep a neighborhood room doing the thing it was built to do.

It opened in November 1923, showing a silent film, and later spent time under the Proctor and Bijou names. The restoration uncovered Craftsman details beneath later finishes. Arrive with enough time to look at the entrance and interior before the lights go down; the architecture is part of the visit, not just packaging for the screen.

## Pick the evening you actually want

The current program mixes first- and second-run films with special screenings. A regular movie and *The Rocky Horror Picture Show* are substantially different social plans. The latter brings the Blue Mousketeers shadow cast and an invitation to participate along with the film.

The theater's page lists second and fourth Saturdays, with dated past screenings including September 26, 2026. But inspect the individual time: its October schedule varies, and “midnight movie” is a genre description that can make you late. The theater also cautions that Rocky Horror is not suitable for every age or viewer. Do not mistake a neighborhood venue for a blanket family recommendation.

## A useful first-timer's approach

For Rocky Horror, read the current show instructions before deciding what to bring or wear. Ask the theater or cast about participation customs if you are unsure. You can be curious without arriving with a suitcase of props and a theory about what everybody else will find funny.

For a conventional screening, simply choose a film and make time to notice the room. There is no requirement to turn the outing into a full district itinerary.

If your preferred kind of cinema discovery is a festival short or an independent feature, compare [The Grand Cinema](https://tacomairl.com/places/grand-cinema/). Tacoma has room for more than one good reason to sit in the dark.
