At Tacoma Musical Playhouse, a useful bit of backstage history is sitting above the audience. The 2013 renovation moved the orchestra out of the seating area into its own loft, lowered the stage by 15 inches and expanded it. Those are practical changes that tell you what the company was trying to improve: the relationship between musicians, actors and people trying to see the show.

TMP began in 1994 and eventually made the Narrows Theatre its permanent home. The company's history records national recognition for its production of *The Addams Family*. A neighborhood address need not mean modest ambition; the interesting question is what a particular cast and production will do with the material.

## Read beyond the musical's title

Before booking, compare the actual production description, running time if supplied, and audience guidance. A familiar film title does not tell you how a stage adaptation handles language, themes or length. The company has separate Mainstage and Family Theater offerings with different ticket prices, so select the production before making the family budget.

Do not use office hours as a show schedule. TMP also lists The Spire at 710 S Anderson Street; check the venue on your ticket rather than assuming every company event happens on 6th Avenue.

## Arrival is the unglamorous part worth planning

TMP's visitor information identifies free parking behind the theater and in the park-and-ride across 6th Avenue, with designated accessible spaces on the S MacArthur Street side. Follow posted signs and use the crossings. Turning up with time to spare is particularly useful if your party needs to coordinate seats or access arrangements with the box office.

For a matinee-day plan, [Titlow Park](https://tacomairl.com/places/titlow-park/) offers a separate outdoor stop farther west. Put the walk before the performance only if the timing is comfortable. Musical theater already supplies a deadline, entrances and dramatic tension; your journey does not need to add more.
