Why go
It’s the city’s own MLK Day event, and it puts local people on stage. The 2026 program honored Uncle Boy Chun Fook with the Lifetime Service Award and JD Davis with the Emerging Leader Award.
What happens
A community outreach fair opened in the convention center lobby at 11am, followed by the main program at 1pm. Kwabi Amoah-Forson hosted, with stories and performances around the 2026 theme, “Community in Service: A Path to Action.”
Good to know
The city’s announcement didn’t list a price. Local organizations apply ahead of time for a table at the outreach fair; in 2026 applications were due January 5.
Next year: it falls on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, the third Monday in January. The city usually announces details in December.
