You’ve got a day in Tacoma, and everything on the map looks close. Stick to one stretch of downtown: art on Pacific Avenue, the Bridge of Glass and the Foss Waterway, with no detour to Point Defiance.

The route starts at Tacoma Art Museum, crosses the Bridge of Glass to Museum of Glass, then heads north on Dock Street to Foss Waterway Seaport. Plan on five to six hours with lunch.

Go Thursday through Sunday

Those are the days TAM and the Seaport are both open. Start around 10am, eat lunch between the art museum and the waterfront, and reach the Seaport well before it closes at 4pm. TAM is closed on some holidays.

1. Tacoma Art Museum

Tacoma Art Museum is at 1701 Pacific Avenue. Adult admission is $18. Check the current exhibitions, pick one or two, and give it 60 to 90 minutes.

Then lunch. Give it about an hour.

2. The Bridge of Glass

Walk south on Pacific Avenue to the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, which crosses to Museum of Glass on Dock Street. The museum’s directions page shows the way.

Take 20 to 30 minutes. The bridge has three installations: the Seaform Pavilion, Crystal Towers and the Venetian Wall. Look closely at one, then step back and look again.

Museum of Glass is at the far end. If glassblowing is why you came, make it your paid museum instead of TAM. The Hot Shop is open during the gallery renovations, which finish December 12, 2026. Doing both museums means cutting the rest of the day short.

3. Foss Waterway Seaport

Head north on Dock Street to Foss Waterway Seaport at 705 Dock Street. It’s free during public hours. Give it about an hour for the maritime exhibits and the heritage boat shop.

Getting back

The route only goes one way, so plan how you’ll get back to the car or the hotel. The T Line stops near the Pacific Avenue end; it doesn’t run on Dock Street.

If everyone’s done after the bridge, stop there. For the evening, check today’s events.
